What a bay is here, exactly
An 8 by 20 foot space inside the vehicle building at Freestone Avenue: sealed epoxy floor, no gravel, no dirt, no sun on the paint and no snow on the roof of the car. You come and go on a code that is yours. The office is in East Hampton, ten minutes away, and answers six days a week; access outside office hours is available on approval.
Two tiers of car bay are listed, from $220 and from $290 a month. Both are the same footprint. If you want to know what separates them before you book, ring and ask; we would rather tell you on the phone than put a guess on a web page.
There is no premium collector product with a different door on it. What is different about a collector is how long they stay and what they ask about, so the rest of this page answers those questions.
Winter is the reason most people ring
Connecticut's storage season runs from the first hard frost, usually November, to the last of the salt on the roads in April. A car put away properly for those five months comes out the way it went in. A car put away badly comes out with a flat battery, varnish in the fuel system, flat-spotted tyres and a musty interior. The difference is an afternoon's work before you bring it.
- Fill the tank and add stabiliser, then drive it ten minutes so the treated fuel reaches the injectors or carburettor.
- Put the battery on a tender, or take it home. A tender needs an outlet; ask us which bays have one before you count on it.
- Tyres up to the top of the recommended pressure, or the car on stands if you are fussy about flat spots.
- Wash it, wax it, and let it dry completely before it goes under a cover. A breathable cover, never plastic: plastic traps the moisture you are trying to keep away from the paint.
- An open box of baking soda or a desiccant tub in the cabin, windows up a crack if you trust the building, which you can.
- Do not start it once a month to "keep it fresh". Ten minutes of idling never gets the oil hot enough to burn off condensation and does more harm than leaving it alone.
Who this suits, and who should not pay for it
This suits a car that matters to you and does not get driven every day: a collector car, a summer car, a second car you are keeping for a child, a project between stages, a car you have sold and are holding for the buyer.
It does not suit a daily driver that needs a home for six weeks between houses. For that, an outdoor space at our East Hampton building is $129 a month and you can be in and out in a minute. We would rather point you there than take $220 for a car that does not need a roof.
Insurance, plainly
Your car is not insured by us. Keep your own policy on it while it is here; most insurers will let you drop the collision element to a storage-only policy for the months it is not on the road, which usually costs less than a month of the bay. Ask them, not us. Cameras on the building are a record of what happened, not a policy that pays out.
Getting in, and getting it out
The door opens on your code. Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 and Saturday 9 to 2, and 24-hour access is available on approval, which is what most collectors ask for on the first phone call. Say so when you book. If you want to see the building before you commit, come during office hours and somebody will walk you through it.

- Yes, at 264 Freestone Ave in Portland, which runs as Portland Auto, Boat and RV Storage. Heated indoor bays for cars, indoor space for boats on trailers up to about forty-five feet, and smaller spaces for motorcycles and personal watercraft. There are also outdoor vehicle spaces in East Hampton and in Portland.

- We do, in the deep indoor bays at Freestone Avenue. RV spaces are not listed with a price online, so call and we will tell you what is free and what it costs.
- Is a vehicle space the same as a storage unit?
- No, and the price is different. A vehicle space is sized and priced for what goes in it, and the vehicle pages on this site quote them separately from the storage units.
